The Digital Building Technologies group (DBT) at the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA), Department of Architecture (D-ARCH), is looking for a Ph.D. student in the area of large-scale additive manufacturing for architecture.
Project background:
- Work on Digital Process Chain for Hollow Core Extrusion project
- Collaboration with Computational Design Lab (CDL) of Prof. Bernd Bickel
- Investigate extrusion of hollow profiles (HC3DP) for large-scale 3D printing in architecture
- Focus on controlling deposition, optimizing material factors and printing parameters
Job description:
- Lead work package on hardware and process development for HC3DP
- Investigate nozzle designs and extrusion profiles
- Collaborate on closed-loop control systems with machine learning
- Work on design for fabrication workflows
- Teach bachelor in architecture, supervise master's theses
Profile:
- Master's degree in architecture or related discipline
- Strong interest/experience in computational design, digital fabrication, or robotics
- Previous academic research experience
- Passion for hands-on prototyping and theoretical work
- Highly motivated, creative, team player with excellent communication skills
- English language proficiency
